5 out of 5 stars Fun games   July 25, 2010
Sandra D King
My granddaughter in the last few months has really gotten into the world of Barbie (she is 4 years old). She had watched the movie at her other grandparents home and when I was purchasing her birthday gifts her Mom suggested Barbie and the Three Musketeers movie and WII game. Needless to say these were a big hit with her. The games are fun and easy for her to play.

5 out of 5 stars Best game my daughter owns (by a Dad/Gamer)   July 5, 2010

After seeing all the negative reviews, I feel compelled to write a review for this game even though I've never written one on Amazon before. First off, graphics do NOT a good game make. Does this game use the Wii's full capabilities or motion controls? No. It is a 2D platformer, just like everyone says. However, the actual GAMEPLAY for this game is some of the best I've seen for my 6 year old.

The other people reviewing the game seem to be doing so from a perspective of whether THEY want to play it. The graphics are lame? They're not 3D, but the art style is very well done and captures the spirit of the movie. I thought the graphics were actually quite charming. No motion controls? True, but the motion controls in other games have been disastrous for my kids. They are always quirky and unresponsive, and my kids just get frustrated with them. This game has simple, straightforward controls that are much easier for my daughter to do without my help.

As for the gameplay, it is a classic 2D platformer. There are coins to collect and puzzles to solve. As you progress through the game, you unlock the different girls from the movie, and each has a different ability to help navigate the levels and get to previously unreachable coins. You can switch between the girls on the fly after unlocking them. The nature of the gameplay actually makes my daughter think and problem solve while she plays - which is fantastic!

In contrast, we also have the "Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey," game that people are recommending so highly. While my daughter did like it, that game is mostly follow the gems from A to B, shake your controller to disolve baddies along the way, then play a mini game like "move the cart left to right to catch the gems." Please folks... not exactly groundbreaking - although it does have 3D graphics and Wii motion controls, so I guess that is what is important...

Overall, I have been very impressed with this game. My daughter loves it, and I would highly recommend it probably for the 6-8 age group - for younger than that it will probably be a bit too hard, and for older it will probably be too easy. If your daughter fits the age group and you've been thinking of picking this up, PLEASE DO! I for one would like to see more games like this one for my kids, with good game design design that engages them in multiple ways rather than the poorly designed (but fully motion control capable!) junk they usually push for the kids.

4 out of 5 stars Limited, Yes, but 7-Year-Old ADORES it   March 13, 2010

I almost didn't buy this game after seeing the extremely negative reviews, but my 7 year old daughter loves Barbie and the Three Musketeers and really wanted the game for Christmas. So, I gave in, fully expecting it to not be worth it. Now here it is, 3 months later, and this is absolutely her favorite game in the world. Yes, it's completely true that it's a really old-style 2-D platform jumper game that doesn't make good use of the Wii technology, but that hardly matters to her. She is not a hugely experienced video gamer and really had to learn how to work the controls for this sort of game, but she didn't find it difficult. The depth and complexity of the game are perfect for where she is now. She loves the levels and challenges, the fact that she can switch between the 4 main character with a single click, and of course that she can use all those earned tokens to "buy" costumes for the characters. The only hard part is the "Come WATCH!" every time she defeats a villain (the knight who eventually is beaten down to a wimpy little guy in long underwear is her favorite), but I'll put up with it for the massive squeals of glee we're getting from this game.

1 out of 5 stars Not Very Good   March 7, 2010

Someone bought this game as gift for my six-year-old. The game is very puzzling and there isnt much guidance. Everything is a maze. It is exciting once you figure out what to do and the kids don't die often. My daugher is great at super mario brothers which is very hard but at least when there is a problem a training guide come up. Simple things like pressing B to change girls is not in the booklet. We spend months going through the menu to change girls. There is litte or no information online in terms of walkthrough or assistance with playing this game. We also have not been able to save our level so that is a big problem when we have to start from the beginning each time we play. So not fair.
